Roshan opened the lid of the lunch box and I peered inside as he pointed out all the different dishes. It was a rainbow of colors; red, green, orange, brown, yellow, and white, all cradled within a dark green banana leaf. In the middle, the main dish — steamed samba rice. To the left was the chicken curry, the gravy glittering with golden droplets of coconut oil. To the right was the beetroot curry, shades of crimson, and purple with a little pink peeking out from the mix. A dash of dhal emanating a hue of yellow and orange staked its claim in the north while green and emerald Gotu kola** defended the lands to the south.
